Getting there
Flying
The closest airport to Vis is Split Airport (SPU). United Airlines operates a direct flight from Newark to SPU—this is the only direct flight from the US to SPU. All other flights will have a layover.
Other large airport hubs in Croatia include Franjo Tuđman International Airport Zagreb (ZAG) and Dubrovnik Airport (DBV). Flying into either airport will require several hours of travel from ZAG or DBV to Split.
Transportation to Vis
The only ways to get to Vis are by ferry, catamaran, or private boat transfer. If you are taking the ferry or catamaran, those depart from Trajektna Luka Split (Split Ferry Port).
If you arrive to Split by air, you have two options for getting to Vis.
Ferry / Catamaran: SPU is 15 miles from the Ferry Port, the transportation options listed below will drop you off directly at the Ferry Port.
By bus: Shuttles run directly from the airport exit (there is only one) to the Ferry Port every 30 minutes. It can take up to an hour in the summer. Cost/person <€5
By taxi: Uber and local taxis are both available from the airport. The journey to the Ferry Port takes about 30 mins, prices beginning at €30+
Once you’ve arrived at the Ferry Port:
There are 3 ferrys and 1-2 catamarans a day going from Split to Vis. Pricing begins at €8/person. The ferry takes 140 mins and the catamaran takes 85 mins.
The 2026 sailing schedule has not been released yet and is likely to be released sometime in December.
Private boat taxi transfer: directly from the airport to the island. For groups of up to 8 people, flat fee beginning at €500.
Transportation on Vis
Both towns are generally car-free. There is a bus that runs between the two towns multiple times per day. The bus schedule is conveniently timed with ferry departures to and from the island.
Taxis are also available, we’d recommend Taxi Smile, contact them via WhatsApp.
